Day 17 - Budget Challenge

Day 1 H&R Block Budget Challenge

  • Go to: H&R Block Budget Challenge to register
    • enter your class code that was given to you by your teacher
      • Period 1 = ELWNJTP
      • Period 2 = BUJDKPY
      • Period 3 = YQIBRGZ
    • enter first and last name
    • use first initial / last initial / id# for username
    • use first initial / last initial / locker combo for password
    • use your student.leyden212.org email address
    • click Submit
  • Go to student email and validate your email by clicking on Authorize and Login
  • Choose Click Here to Go to the Next Step
  • Under Getting Started, click How to Play and watch YouTube Videos and review the Average Household Spending data
    • For which of the spending categories does the average American spend the most?
  • Download the Google Sheets version of the Budget and Cashflow Spreadsheet
    • you’ll have to Save it as a Google Spreadsheet
    • create a subfolder in your class folder for the Budget Challenge
    • put the start date in the first orange cell
  • hover over Student Home, click on Vendor Selection
    • click on red Job tab
    • Review Information Packet for Vendor Details
      • choose your 401(k) plan carefully (you cannot change it later)
      • choose your 401(k) % (you can change this later)
        • What is a 401(k)?
  • be sure to logout at the end of each day

Day 2 H&R Block Budget Challenge

Chapter 1 Key Terms:
»»Consumer: A person or organization
    that uses a product or service

      »» Credit: The granting of a loan and the
        creation of debt; any form of deferred
          payment

            »» Debt: An obligation of repayment owed
              by one party (the debtor/borrower) to
                a second party (the creditor/lender); in
                  most cases this includes repayment of
                    the original loan amount plus interest
